A. FIRST Team 2435 has worked toward expanding our team to the younger grades by participation in VEX robotics. Our major focus this year is to expand the number of students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through our robotics program. FIRST Team 2435 is currently mentoring a middle school team through MacArthur Middle School. The administration, teachers and students at MMS are enthusiastically supporting the robotics program by sponsoring a VEX robotics program. While VEX is not a part of the FIRST “family”, it is a member of the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, as is FIRST.
The middle school team is near the end of their competition season, having done very well by earning three awards at two competitions; AMAZE awards, Excellence award and the THINK award thereby qualifying for the WORLD Championship in Orlando, FL in April.
B. We will again offer a science focused summer camp in cooperation with Lawton Public Schools, focusing on robotics, in an effort to excite and energize younger students to learn about STEM and to promote our Pre-Engineering program.
